It made me think of ‘90s GM, and how you could buy one of these:
Or o ne of these:
Or one of these:
Or one of these:
Talk about internal competition...

I worked at GM for a bit in the 1990s. Trust me, it was far worse than even this.

The thing that stands out to me with this set is that between the four of them, there are three completely different, unrelated platforms for the same class of vehicle.
I don’t doubt that GM was doing things that made less sense than this though.

Your example is pretty typical really. Lots of things that just left me scratching my head all the time.
I could tell stories for hours - a guy named Ben Hamper wrote a book called “ Rivethead” around that time which painted a far more accurate picture of life on the inside than most people would want to believe.

Hey, the #3 is a Geo Prism which is essentially a rebadged Corolla. I’d call you pretty smart if you got a 130 hp twin cam GSi with your GM family discount....

Also this but at least those did not directly compete for sales with the other four.

It’s a great book, and I can attest to the fact that a lot of wild shit went down inside GM plants at that time. I was working outside of Dayton, not Flint, but I believe every word of it.
